My Story

Hi there! I am so happy you found your way here. :)

My Work

I am a mixed media artist specializing in chigiri-e, a traditional Japanese technique using hand-torn washi papers. I blend this traditional technique with watercolor elements to give it my own flair and modern touch.

I learned chigiri-e as a child from my grandmother, who mastered the art during her 30+ years as a missionary in Japan. Everything about this art form is intentional and thoughtful, and I love that it preserves a piece of history within each piece.

Japanese artisans handcraft washi paper from mulberry tree bark and dye it into beautiful colors. Because of this handmade process, no two sheets of washi are exactly alike.

So far, my work has primarily used vintage handmade washi from my grandmother’s collection—a personal archive of papers she sourced during her time in Japan. I recently traveled to Japan to carefully select new washi papers to expand this collection and continue her legacy.

One of my favorite things about this art form is that the materials already have a story before I ever begin. Each piece of washi has passed through many skilled hands—from the Japanese artisans who handmade and dyed the paper, to my grandmother, who learned the art during her years in Japan, collected these papers, and eventually taught me how to work with them. I love being the next artist in that story, giving these beautiful papers a new life through my own work while carrying a little piece of their legacy forward.

My Inspiration

I’ve always found inspiration in the world around me. Growing up in rural Georgia, surrounded by pine forests and open landscapes, I spent a lot of time using my imagination and finding beauty in the everyday. My grandmothers also instilled in me a love for flowers, plants, and birds from a young age.

Today, I’m still inspired by the smallest details—a beautiful pattern, a piece of vintage lace, an unexpected color combination, or the way colors, textures, and designs come together in an interior. My work is a reflection of that constant curiosity and my love for finding beauty in the details of everyday life.

My Personal Life

I graduated from the University of Georgia before moving to Washington, DC, where I lived and worked for 6+ years and met my now-husband. I spent 10 years working in the corporate world before finally taking the leap of faith to pursue art full time.

I now live in Charleston, SC, with my husband and our sweet pup, who loves to snuggle and supervise my artwork. :)

My Hope

My husband and I love bringing original art home with us from our travels, and much of what I’ve created for clients and friends has been to celebrate a special moment—a new baby and nursery, a new home, a fresh start, or a piece created specifically for a space.

I believe the art we choose to live with becomes part of our family’s story. It can remind us of where we’ve been, celebrate where we are, and become something meaningful to pass down through generations.

My hope is that each piece I create brings a sense of quiet beauty into a home and, over time, becomes an heirloom with a story of its own. Every piece is truly one of a kind, shaped by the unique handmade materials and the care that went into creating it. Made slowly and delicately, each piece is meant to be treasured for years to come.
